All the beautiful figs around right now inspired us to get this Brown Turkey Fig (aka Texas Everbearing). Apparently they do well in pots and people even bonsai them!
We also planted this Tree Tomato (Tamarillo) which I'm hoping will enjoy the shelter and warm microclimate down the side of the house. There's one not far from our house that is booming right now.
And our new babies are in and ready for espaliering. Meet Pomme de Neige on the left and Cox's Orange Pippin on the right. Underplantings of alpine strawberries will hopefully be shallow rooted enough not to bother the trees while attracting grub eating birds to keep the codlin moth at bay. Really wish we had some chooks for that job.
And a few other aquisitions: a mushroom plant I picked up from a nursery in the Dandenongs on the weekend (it really tastes like mushroom!) and a Pepino from Ceres.
Some of the winter seedlings were unfortunately eaten by critters, but I've still got some broccoli romanesco under cover, and the wombok and broad beans don't seem to be of much interest to them.
And a quick shout out to my lovely friend who brought over a basket of the last of her summer produce from her amazing property in Avenel. Look at those gorgeous sweet chilis. I think a spicy amatriciana is in order.
