Rouge de Marmande - 1st prize

We have decided the best tomato of the season has been the beautiful Rouge de Marmande. Sown from Franchi seed well after some of the other varieties, it is the tallest, most productive and has sweet, juicy fruits up to 250 grams! We nicknamed this one Big Bertha.

Franchi seeds are available at Italian supermarkets such as Cardamone in Fairfield -  www.cardamonegourmet.com.au and can be purchased online at www.theitaliangardener.com.au

  1. Jealous! What did it taste like? What dish do you honour Bertha in? You need to start including a common object in your photos for scale :) eg a coin

  2. I know, I thought as much when I published the photo and didn't think it did her justice.

She was delicious, and went in to a pork and tomato braise, served with rice a feta. Mmm.
